Nutraceutics and Cosmetics
At ICB, chemistry plays a fundamental role also in the research and development of new formulations from natural sources in cosmetics and nutraceuticals. In particular, thanks to the multidisciplinary skills that characterize the ICB, the analyses carried out in this area range from the study of the raw materials used in the production of cosmetic or nutraceutical products to the characterization and stability of the finished product, from the choice of formulations used to the evaluation of efficacy , to the use of substances obtained by chemical or biotechnological synthesis or by extraction from natural products or biomass waste, from process innovation with increasingly sustainable technologies to the identification of primary packaging capable of guaranteeing suitable conservation.
- Pure matrices and compounds of plant origin for cosmetic applications;
- Extraction of antioxidants, polyunsaturated fatty acids and nutraceutical substances from natural sources;
- Study of the human microbiome and design of functional or nutraceutical foods.
