Elisabetta Alberico obtained her Master of Science – Chemistry (with honours) at the University of Sassari, Italy and her Ph. D. (Summa cum Laude) at the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule in Aachen, Germany. She has been research associate at the University of Ottawa, Canada, in the group of Prof. Howard Alpern, working at the regio- and stereoselective synthesis of key 1-methyl carbapenem intermediates via hydroformylation using a zwitterionic rhodium catalyst. Since 2001 she is researcher at the Institute of Biomolecular Chemistry ICB-CNR in Sassari, Italy and, since 2011, she is associate researcher in the group of Prof. Matthias Beller at the Leibniz Institut für Catalyse, Rostock, Germany. She is co-author of 48 publications on international peer-reviewed journals (Web of Science, September 2021) and 5 book chapters. She has been reviewer for ACS Catalysis, Organometallics, Inorganic Chemistry, Chemical Science, ChemCatChem, Asian Journal of Organic Chemistry, Chemistry Select, Journal of Molecular Catalysis, Journal of Molecular Catalysis A: Chemical, Journal of Organometallic Chemistry. Her research interests are devoted to the design and synthesis of novel homogeneous catalysts based on noble and non-noble transition metals, for hydrogenation, transfer hydrogenation and dehydrogenation reactions; to the development of homogeneous catalytic processes for the reduction of multiple bonds as key steps in the synthesis of molecules of industrial relevance; to the homogeneously catalyzed hydrogen generation from renewables (methanol, formic acid) under mild conditions; to the investigation into the mechanism of the reactions catalyzed by the developed catalysts.
