The research activity, in the field of green chemistry and processes for sustainability, is framed in the following topics:

• Chemical studies of microbial metabolism for the biotechnological development of sustainable bioprocesses
• Production of bioenergy (biohydrogen and biodiesel) and added-value molecules through biological processes in hyper-thermophilic bacteria and marine microalgae
• Capture and valorization of CO2 through microbial platforms
• Isolation, structure elucidation and biosynthesis of marine bioactive metabolites

Responsible for the CNR of numerous National and European projects, including the European Project BioRECO2VER (2018-2021, G.A. n. 760431,) ”Biological routes for CO2 conversion into chemical building blocks” and the Project PON01_02740 SIBAFEQ (2011-2015) “Integrated exploitation of algal biomass in a quality energy chain”. Author of 92 scientific publications in international journals, H-index 28, and 1 European Patent. Speaker at least of 15 international congresses, and Member of the Scientific Board at least 8 International Congresses. Member of the ICB Institute Council since 2019. Responsible for numerous modules, projects and sub-projects in the PDGP-CNR since 2010. Tutor of 6 post-Docs, 5 PhDs, 3 Internships, 6 Degree Theses.
